McCabe focused on stage 5 victory

Those with the time trial expertise were Gavin Mannion and Serghei Tvetcov, both fresh from individual victories in recent US Pro Tour races and full of motivation for this year’s Amgen Tour of California. Mannion took a stage at the Tour of the Gila and finished second to Tvetcov in the time trial.

Tvetcov fared the best on the stage, finishing 13th, just a minute behind the winner Tejay van Garderen (BMC). Mannion was further back in 26th place at a minute and 49 seconds, however moved up two places on the overall standings to 17th place with three more days of racing to come.

“We were looking for a good ride from both of our time trial specialists, and they had an incredible ride, competing with a stacked field of some of the best in the world,” team director Seba Alexandre said. “Tomorrow is another day, and one we’ll be focusing on getting McCabe into position at the end of the stage. He’s hungry for a for a good result and we want to be there to help him achieve that.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the fifth stage of the tour is mostly flat from Stockton to Elk Grove, featuring one lesser categorized climb about halfway through the stage. Despite no real climbs to deal with the 176km route will more than likely be a test against the wind.
