UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling sweeps stage 3 podium

“I’m pretty ecstatic,” Hanson said. “A little bit surprised. A little bit in disbelief. This is a first time of a lot of things for me. I can’t believe I won it in a time trial.”

Not only that, the team stacked the podium, claiming the first four places. Hanson won with a time of 6:32:57, Leah Thomas took second, 18 seconds back, Katie Hall finished third at 41 seconds and Rushlee Buchanan was fourth at 42 seconds.

“What a fantastic result,” team director Rachel Heal said. “For Lauretta it’s her first UCI win, first time trial win and first yellow jersey. For a rider who so often works tirelessly for the team, it’s great to see her stand on the top of the podium herself. With Leah and Katie taking 2nd and 3rd we’re in a great position heading into the final two stages.”

The excellent stage result moved Hanson and Thomas into first and second overall, which they defended during the 71 kilometre afternoon road race. Ending in a bunch sprint, Hanson took second place and added a seven second time bonus to her yellow jersey lead with one stage remaining.
