McCabe retains lead in sprint competition

“I was feeling good today,” Mannion said. “It was a really hard climb, so I was happy to make the yellow jersey group. I definitely think we can see who will be challenging for GC on the final two days after today’s stage. A lot can still change, but I think the GC winner will come from the lead group today. The racing here is pretty simple, you either have the legs on the climbs or you don’t.”

Mannion definitely had the legs today, as his effort boosted him up five places to sixth overall, 38 seconds off Kuss, who moved into the yellow jersey.

Before the break of the day established, Travis McCabe scooped up the first sprint in Payson, collecting five more points towards his Utah Sports Commission jersey and three time bonus seconds. McCabe will start tomorrow with 15 points, three points ahead of Ulises Castillo.

Tomorrow’s stage will be one for the sprinters, and a chance for McCabe to take his second win of the Tour of Utah. At 188km, it’s the longest stage of the race and features three intermediate sprints and one lesser categorized climb, midway through the race.
