Alzate collects second place at Sunny King Criterium

Anniston, Ala. – UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling celebrated another successful weekend of racing with Daniel Jaramillo winning the McClellan Road Race and Carlos Alzate claiming second at the Sunny King Criterium. Both races made up the Alabama Cycling Classic held in Anniston, Alabama on April 8 and 9.

On Saturday during the 60-lap, four corner criterium in downtown Anniston, UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling covered each attempt at a breakaway and was represented by Alzate in an early group of five riders.

“Then there several attacks in the field and during one Greg Henderson went down while covering a move,” Team Director Sebastian Alexandre said.

The group made it across to Alzate’s break and almost lapped the field. Sensing the pressure the main bunch reacted, but it was too late. The break of 10 riders containing Alzate stayed away until the finish.

“Carlos finished second today and it’s another good day of racing for our team,” Alexandre said. “We really put a good show tonight.”

Sunday’s 143.5 km road race saw UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling deliver Jaramillo to a comfortable win.

“I was very happy with all the team work today,” Jaramillo said. “Unfortunately I couldn’t race in the crit because of a delay in my flight, but I was confident in today’s race. I was motivated today and felt very strong. It was a nice way to use my racing bike for the first time. This victory gives me motivation for the upcoming races.”

Alexandre said it was only a matter of time before the team added more victories to the season’s tally.

“We all worked very hard all winter to prepare the season and team is motivated and strong,” he said. “It is proved that at every race we enter we are there to win.”
