The 213 km stage, which also happened to be the longest of the seven day tour, saw 10 riders escape up the road and gain a maximum advantage of seven minutes before the peloton began to reel them back in. UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling played a big part in bringing the break back with 10 km left in the stage, especially Lachlan Norris who spent a lot of time burying himself for the team.
“The team had a strong showing today supporting me for the sprint,” McCabe said. “Everyone did a really great job of keeping me fresh and prepared for the finishing circuits. I came in feeling good. It got a little chaotic in the last two laps during the last downhill left hand turn, but I was I was able to get onto Ty Magner’s wheel coming into the last 400 meters. It was a drag race to the finish.”
McCabe’s stage result puts him in fourth place overall, six seconds down on race leader Magner.
“I’m happy with third, and I’m really impressed with the way everyone rode today. We’re going to have a really strong Tour of Utah, so I’m excited,” McCabe said.
Tomorrow’s 94-mile (151km) stage begins at Brigham City and features almost 7,000 feet of climbing before finishing on a category 2 climb at Snowbasin Resort.
