Winder Clinches Win and Cole Takes Home White
Ruth Winder fought for the win in downtown Fayetteville on Sunday just as the rain clouds started to roll in. Winder and the team countered every attack during the 50-minute criterium, waiting for just the right moment to sprint for the finale. The circuit, one of the more difficult courses on the Pro Road Tour series, finished with a hard uphill kick ensuring that only the strongest sprinters would hold on for the critical moments. With her win on Sunday, Winder sealed the win for overall General Classification and Sprint Points competitions.
When asked about how she felt about the day Winder said, “I was taken good care of by the team. I guess I picked the right time to sprint because I was able to pull off the win. I’m really happy for the win myself and for the team.”
It was another great display of teamwork today. We were attacking and represented in any attacks, but the strong wind made a breakaway very difficult and the finish was contested by a reduced bunch.
