UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling best team overall
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team concluded the Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease Women’s Race with Katie Hall taking second place overall after four days of racing. The 30-year-old climber also secured the Lexus Queen of the Mountains jersey.
Sacramento Circuit Race set the stage for fireworks in the finale that saw Hall lead GC by one second ahead of Boels Dolmans rider Anna van der Breggen.
UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling rose to the challenge and controlled the race for the majority of the 90-minute race. However, the team couldn’t stop the Olympic champion from collecting enough precious intermediate bonus seconds to leapfrog into the yellow jersey.
“I don’t know that we really expected to have the yellow jersey, let alone defend it down to one second,” said Buchanan, whose efforts were awarded with the most courageous jersey after the stage. “I’m really proud of the work our UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team put in this week. We stepped up each day and as every challenge was thrown at us we grabbed it by both hands fighting. We weren’t intimidated by any of the other teams and tried to win the race.”
Hall finished in 13th place on the last stage, which was won by Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle-Hi5).
“It was a really an honor to be a part of this race, to be part of this team and to be fighting for the GC win against one of the best teams in the world,” Hall said. “I’m so proud of how we did.”
